Planning Mother's Day activities doesn't need to be elaborate or even expensive. There are many ways to enjoy Mother's Day that are simple and fun for the whole family. Odds are good you have some great activities right in your home town, or you can even have fun spending the day at home.
Mother's Day Flowers
Mother's Day and flowers go hand in hand. There are quite a few Mother's Day activities that can tie the two together. For example:
- Visit a local garden, arboretum or botanical garden.
- Get mom some flower seeds and containers (or tools if planting outside) and help her plant some flowers.
- Go on a hike or find a place well known for its spring wildflowers. If you have flowers suitable for cutting growing in your garden, use those. Together, pick the prettiest flowers but only where flower picking is allowed. When you get back home, put the flowers into a vase for mom.
Mother's Day Brunch
Brunch can be a great activity for Mother's Day (as long as mom isn't the one preparing it). Find a great local brunch at a restaurant, and be sure to reserve well in advance. Also consider making brunch at home. It can be fun for the kids to help dad prepare it, and some recipes are pretty simple.
Mother's Day Theater, Concert or Performance
It can be a rare thing for a mom to get out for a live performance. Check your local events calendar, and you might find kid-friendly performances that work for the whole family. Older children will enjoy most plays, concerts, ballet and other performances.
Mother's Day Sightseeing, Crafts and Shopping
This can be a great day to visit a local museum, historic house or attraction. Many times, attractions offer mom free admission or have some activities for Mother's Day.
The great thing about doing crafts on Mother's Day is that this can be an activity and a gift all rolled into one. Find crafts kids and mom will both enjoy. There are also often local classes for all sorts of crafts, such as knitting, pottery, scrapbooking, painting, and so on.
Most moms love shopping. Spending the day browsing shops and boutiques, perhaps stopping for a Mother's Day lunch or dinner, can be a lot of fun. Make it more interesting by giving mom a gift card to her favorite shop to use during the outing.
Mother's Day Spa and Pampering
Moms work pretty hard 364 days a year and often help, assist and wait on others in the family. Here are a few ideas to have a Mother's Day pampered theme day:
- Visit a local spa. Several have things like mother-daughter and couples packages.
- Have a home spa day. The kids can even find recipes to make some spa treatments from scratch. Make enough for everyone, in fact!
- Have a mom-does-nothing day. Mom doesn't have to cook, clean, change, wash or do anything but whatever she pleases.
There are so many ways to give mom a fun day with a wide variety of Mother's Day activities. Get creative and mom will be sure to remember the special day for years.
