The great thing about making desserts while camping is that you can encourage kids to eat healthier desserts made with fresh fruit and wholesome grains, and they will love both making it and eating it.

S'Mores Dessert Recipes

Take the classic and turn it on its head with some of these unique and unusual s'mores recipes for camping. The recipes feature unorthodox but delicious ingredients like 'Nilla wafers, white chocolate, peanut butter chips and fresh fruits. See the full list of s'mores recipes for camping.

Banana Cream Campfire Pie

  • One banana, sliced
  • Five graham crackers, smashed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Handful of mini marshmallows

Take graham crackers and smash them up in a bowl. Add sliced very ripe bananas, a half cup of milk and a handful of mini marshmallows. Mix well and place in a camping dutch oven that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Cook over camp stove or campfire, stirring often, for 20 minutes.

Sweet Chocolate Roasted Campfire Nuts

  • Three cups of shelled nuts
  • Tablespoon of butter
  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder

Put butter into a camping pan and melt. Add shelled nuts of your choice (peanuts or cashews work well). Stir in brown sugar and powdered cocoa. Stir frequently while roasting over the campfire or camping stove for 40 minutes. Spread onto a camping plate to cool, and enjoy.

Everything But the Kitchen Sink Camping Dessert

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter chips
  • 1 cup of diced apples
  • 1 cup of cut strawberries
  • 1 cup of mini marshmallows
  • 1 cup of 'Nilla wafers, crumbled
  • 1/2 cup of granola
  • 1/2 cup of raisins
  • Anything else sweet you have on hand

Kids just love making this, as it is everything fun to a kid: messy and tasty. Take all ingredients and mix them in a camping dutch oven or on single-serving aluminum foil squares sprayed with cooking spray, and close foil. Cook on campfire or camping stove for 30 minutes. Eat with wet napkins or wipes handy!

Camping Rice Krispy Squares

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 5 cups marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispy cereal

Melt butter on camping pan on campfire or cooking stove. Add marshmallows and stir until melted. In a square pan, pour it all in and smash flat on top. Let cool, then cut into squares. For fun, use chocolate or fruit Krispies.

Pear Campfire Cobbler

  • 2 pears, diced
  • 1 cup granola
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup caramel chips

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Put in camping dutch oven or place onto sprayed foil square and close. Place on camping stove or campfire for 45 minutes.
